IBI Course Information

Qualifications

Degree (Professionals only):  A qualified IBI professional must hold at least a bachelor's degree in a health, human services, educational, behavioral science or counseling field from a nationally accredited university of college. (IDAPA 16.04.11.420.10a)

Experience:  An individual applying for IBI paraprofessional or professional certification must be able to provide documentation of one (1) year's supervised experience working with children with developmental disabilities.  The year's experience must be gained through paid employment or university practicum experience or internship and be documented to include one thousand (1000) hours of direct contact or care of children with developmental disabilities in a behavioral context. (IDAPA 16.04.11.420.10b)

  • The 1000 hours of experience in a behavioral context is typically gained through employment in a Developmental Disability Agency (DDA) working as a developmental therapist/technician or in a school Extended Resources setting working as a one-to-one aide with a child.

Classes and Registration

Classes are held to a minimum of 6 students and a maximum of 12 students. Registration packets must be received by the ITC in order to reserve a space. Registration packets must be received by the ITC no later than one week prior to the first night of class. Classes with less than 6 registered students may be rescheduled if the ITC subsequently receives enough student registrations and if the Instructor is available.

Payment

The cost per student is $250.00. You do not have to send payment with your registration packet. Once the ITC confirms that a class will take place, you will be asked to send your payment to the ITC.  Payment must be received by the ITC no later than the 2nd day of class.

To register for an IBI course you must submit the following to the ITC:

  • A completed registration form and;
  • An updated resume (includes supervisor contact information and hours spent providing direct contact or care to children with developmental disabilities in a behavioral context) and;
  • A copy of degree or transcript (Professionals only)

Required Course Manuals

Students are required to read Standards 1-4 in the IBI Student manual prior to the first day of class. All three manuals are required in each class session.
