Technical Assistance in School Based Settings for Students with Autism is Available
The Center on Disabilities and Human Development at the University of Idaho and the Idaho State Department of Education are working together to provide school based technical assistance and training in Autism Spectrum Disorders to Idaho school districts requesting such assistance. For information about our technical assistance program please read the information below.
Technical Assistance Program
We offer technical assistance to schools by providing services to students with Autism and other related disorders. Technical assistance involves:
- Initial review of existing services and supports.
- Development of an action plan to align existing program with ‘best practices’ based upon initial assessment results.
- In-service training and support to staff to carryout action plan.
- Ongoing on-site visits throughout the school year.
Eligibility
Although any school is eligible, first priority is given to school teams who have participated in one of the two-day workshops titled, Best Practices and Strategies for Children with Autism. These workshops were held throughout the state of Idaho in spring/fall 2007, and fall 2008. These two-day workshops were designed to introduce the Autism Supports model to school teams who would then work with a project consultant to implement the model at their individual school.
At this time no future trainings are scheduled. Please contact Barbara Broyles at 208-885-3018 or bbroyles@uidaho.edu to be added to the waiting list for any future workshops that may be offered.
