"Communication Strategies for Children with Significant Disabilities"

Who Should Attend: Teachers, Related Service Professionals, Paraprofessionals and Families

Description: This workshop is designed to enhance communication instruction for students with multiple and severe disabilities including severe sensory impaiments, deaf-blindness and autism.  Particpants will review a series of case studies and will develop the skill necessary to: 

1.  Describe the levels of communication development and determine the present level of    communication for their particular child/children 

2.  Identify the instructional strategies for a child at the pre-symbolic level of communication 

3.  Identify the appropriate symbol types and instructional variables for a child who may be ready for Tangible Symbol Systems

4.  Describe a decision making process to use when considering the use of microswitch and other basic technologies for a child at the early stages of communication
