Blackboard Learning System Requirements

All online courses at the University of Idaho use the Blackboard Learning System. It is absolutely critical that you have:

  • Obtained admission, student ID and PIN
  • Configured your computer to ensure that you can readily access the Blackboard Learning System
  • Completed all student Blackboard tutorials and know how to gain help if needed

It is important for you to realize that learning in an online environment is quite different from more traditional face-to-face course formats. In an online course, the burden for learning is equally distributed between the instructor, who must have appropriate content online that is organized for efficient learning, and the student who is responsible for organizing their time to participate in the course.

Obtaining Your Student ID and PIN

When you are admitted to the University of Idaho, you will receive a Student ID (provided in your admission letter) and PIN. The Vandal Setup link will guide you through getting set up for Vandal Mail and Vandal Web, which will be necessary to log into the University of Idaho Blackboard system.

Registration for Blackboard Courses may be accessed directly from the University of Idaho Blackboard website and clicking on the Log In link on the left navigation panel.

Setting Up Your Computer to Access Blackboard Courses

It is absolutely critical to ensure that you are able to access the Blackboard system and courses through the computer you intend to use. This can be accomplished by completing directions in Set Up, Troubleshooting, and Service tutorials.

It will be very helpful to complete all Student Tutorials on the link above prior to the first week of your class. The courses are organized in Learning Modules that include all learning activities to be accomplished each week, and are released for one week only.
