DS for Children Course
Individuals applying for DS for Children certification must successfully complete the DS for Children course with a minimum score of 80%. The course is only offered by ITC certified DS for Children Trainers. At the end of the course, the Trainer will submit the "Student Tracking Sheet" to the ITC who will then send the student notification that they may schedule a time with an approved proctor to take their exam.
- Students have 6 months to complete the DS course.
State Exam
After completing the DS for Children Course, students are required to take the DS for Children State Exam and pass with a score of 80% or higher. Students are given two opportunities to take and pass the exam. If a student does not pass the second exam he/she will be required to retake the DS for Children Course.
Students are required to pay the proctor a $20 fee on the day of their exam. Students with a disability who require reasonable accommodations should contact the ITC so that we may provide such accommodations.
The ITC requires not more than three weeks to process exams once they are received back in our offices. Exams are graded and notification is sent to the student and trainer via email. When the student has successfully passed the State Exam, the ITC will request a DS for Children Provider certificate from the Department of Health and Welfare and the student will be added to the DS for Children Provider list.
- Students have 6 months from the completion of the DS for Children Course to successfully pass the State Exam.
Certification
After all the required documents and materials are provided to the Trainer and the ITC, the ITC will review the student file for completion and request a Provider certificate from the Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) Division of Family and Children Services. The certificate will be sent directly to the Student.
