IBI Certification Process

IBI Course

Individuals applying for IBI certification must successfully complete the IBI course with a minimum score of 80%. The course is only offered by ITC Instructors. At the end of the course, the Instructor will submit the Standard Quiz scores to the ITC who will then send the student notification that they may schedule a time with an approved proctor to take their exam.

  • Students have 6 months to complete the IBI course and should have access to a child who qualifies for IBI in order to conduct the Student Project.

State Exam

After completing the IBI Course, students are required to take the IBI State Exam and pass with a score of 80% or higher. Students are given two opportunities to take and pass the exam. If a student does not pass the second exam he/she will be required to retake the IBI Course.

Students will receive an email "ticket" that gives them permission to take the exam.  This email should be printed off and presented to the proctor at the time of testing.  Students are required to pay the proctor a fee (varies by region) on the day of their exam. Students with a disability who require reasonable accommodations should contact the ITC so that we may provide such accommodations.

The ITC requires not more than three weeks to process exams once they are received back in our offices. Exams are graded and notification is sent to the student and trainer via email. Upon successfully passing the State Exam, students are eligible to begin their student project.

  • Students have 6 months from the completion of the IBI Course to successfully pass the State Exam.

Student Project

The "Student Project Start Date" is submitted by the project Supervisor to the ITC at which time the ITC will request a Provisional Certificate for the student from DHW. The student will be added to the IBI Provider List.   Provisional status lasts for 6 months. The Student Projects are graded by the ITC. The ITC will forward project scores to the student and Supervisor within 30 calendar days from the date it is submitted for grading.  Upon successful completion of the Student Project, the ITC will request the permanent Provider Certificate from DHW.

  • Students have 5 months from their start date to complete the Student Project. The 6th month will be used by the ITC to grade the project.
  • Students must receive 85% or higher to pass their Student Project

Please go to "Student Project Grading Policy" for more details.

Certification

After all the required documents and materials are provided to the Trainer and the ITC, the ITC will review the student file for completion and request a Provider certificate from the Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) Division of Family and Children Services. The certificate will be sent directly to the Student.
