Idaho Partners in Policymaking is designed to prepare individuals to be effective leaders and advocates for people with disabilities. The training program is for adults with developmental disabilities and parents of young children with disabilities. The program explores disability issues and builds skills that individuals need to influence legislation and policy effectively to obtain the most appropriate services for themselves and others. The overall goal is to achieve a productive partnership between people needing and using services and those in a position to make policy and law.

Participants represent a variety of ethnic backgrounds, geographic regions of the state, and types of disabilities. The "Partners" attend eight monthly, two-day training sessions. "Partners" explore current developmental disability issues, best practices, and policymaking and legislative processes at the local, state, and federal levels in order to strengthen self-advocacy skills and increase personal empowerment.
